Kick off to Summer

Sunday, May 24, 2009

Welcome to the new Red River blog! It only seems fitting that we kick off this feature on the weekend that traditionally kicks off the summer season. Currently Red River is filled with about 15,000 motorcycle enthusiasts for our annual Memorial Day Motorcycle Rally. This event is always great for us as it brings lots of people (and a much needed boost to our economy) after a generally calm spring season. With last year's snow showers and this year's economic climate, we were all unsure about what to expect from the 2009 rally. Despite sporadic rain showers all weekend, attendance is much better than expected and everyone seems to be having a great time! We've all been busy, busy, busy making sure our visitors feel comfortable and safe while they enjoy live music, shopping, great food, and the beautiful scenery Red River has to offer. Tomorrow marks the official end of the rally with a flag walk and ceremony at the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial in Angel Fire, which we're proud to be a part of and include with our schedule of events. After a few days of well-deserved rest, Red River will gear up for an entire summer of great special events. Early-June brings us the Classic Car Show, complete with a new carnival and the town-wide garage sale. If you plan on visiting that weekend make sure to leave extra space in your car as many of the businesses offer huge sales to clear out inventory from last year. That weekend also brings a "local favorite" fundraiser; the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation will have their annual dinner and auction Saturday night at the Bull 'o the Woods.

So that's it for Red River's first blog entry. If there's anything you'd like us to address or if you have any questions about topics we're covering feel free to send an email!
